Letter "H", Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate, Monsters, Patterns, and More!

It's been a spook-tacular week of learning!

Our fabulous Halloween door!
As it says, "OUR CLASS IS A-DOOR-ABLE!"

We built structures with Velcro blocks.

"I made a house!"

We've been reading the book "Five Little
Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate". We're creating
a scene from the book and we started
by making a gate.

We talked about how some of the gate pieces
are horizontal and some are vertical.

We created the letter "H" out of
Handwriting Without Tears wood pieces.

We love the Go Noodle guys!
They teach us really cool handshakes!

We worked with number toys. They
transform into robots.

We talked about how the vertical pieces go
from the the top to the bottom and the horizontal
pieces go from side to side.

Every morning we work on our journals. This
week we're working on writing and drawing
things that start with the letter "H".

We dipped a jack-o-lantern shape sponge into
orange paint and stamped it five times to create
"Five Little Pumpkins Sitting on a Gate".

We created monsters. The first step was to choose
what colors of paint we wanted. The next step was
to fold the paper in half and then tap it all over to
spread the paint evenly on both sides of the paper.

When we opened the paper we saw that we'd
created the beginnings of a symmetrical monster face.

Look how great they turned out!
We built structures with the waffle blocks.

We added features to our monsters.
We made sure that the features were symmetrical.

We have SO MUCH FUN at the Manipulatives table.
We've been scooping food for animals and working
with numbers that transform into robots.

We were careful to place the eyes, ears, teeth
and hair on our monsters symmetrically.

We created patterns.

Our awesome symmetrical monsters!

One of our favorite jobs is being the song helper.
We love the "Orange" song!

Our Story Book Pig, Orange, Letter "H", Jack-o-Lanterns, and More

What a wonderful week!
Be sure to check out our classroom door next week...it promises to be spooky!

We love taking turns being the song helper.

"Orange" is our song this month.

For our story book pumpkin we're creating
a house made of sticks.

We took turns gluing sticks on the house.

When the mirror was moved it left a fun spot to hang out in.

When we're using the tunnel we talk a lot about the
words "through" and "in".

We put sand in the top and watch it go
down to the bottom.

Our story book pig turned out great! It
will be in the library all next week if you want to visit it!
Each of the Pre-K classes made a pig, too.

We created letter "H" art by gluing letter "H"
objects on letter "H" paper.

We colored in a letter "H" heart.

We practiced the letter "H" sound every time we requested
one of the objects.

We are learning to color inside.

We created a HUGE class jack-o-lantern!
We talked about how the eyes go at the
top, the nose in the middle, and the mouth
at the bottom. We took turns cutting the
shapes and gluing them onto the pumpkin.
Check out our classroom door...that's
where it is!
We constructed a train.

We paid very close attention to a lesson on letters.

We created mummies by gluing tissue paper
strips on horizontally. We also added two eyes.

We talked about how horizontal means going
across the paper from side to side.

We covered the entire mummy!

On a rainy day we brought the outside in.
We played with the tunnel.

We rode a tricycle.

The rain didn't bother us at all!

We created ghosts from the white handprints we made last week.
We added eyes and a mouth. "BOO!!!"

We loved creating our mummies.

And here they are...all together!

Letter "P", the Square Shape, the Color Orange, and More

We've had a great week full of fun and learning!

Learning about Mat Man helps us learn to draw
a person with all their basic parts. "It's me!"

We are learning about the square shape. It has
four equal sides and four corners. We cut out
square shapes and painted them orange.

We built structures in the Toy Center.

Finger painting is always fabulous!

We practiced writing the letter "P".

Mat Man again! He's such a great guy and
such a big help when we're drawing!

We love reading!

Building structures is something we do every day.

We glued different sizes and colors of squares
on the big orange square we created. Check out
our "Squares on Squares" on the hallway bulletin board.

We work in our journals every morning.

It's fun to make music with friends.

Music is a big part of every day.

We created robots out of square shapes. We talked about
the parts of his body and we talked about their position.
Check out all of our robots on the hallway bulletin board.

"Boo!"

We're creating a storybook pumpkin. Our pumpkin will
be the little pig who lives in a stick house, the one from
"The Three Little Pigs". We painted a layer of white first.

Next week we'll paint it pink, add pig features,
and create his stick house.

We made handprints with the leftover white
paint on our hands. These will become ghosts.
