Our Own Buses!

Today we began working on our own small buses to match the BIG one in the hallway. We used our hands to paint them yellow. We'll be adding details soon! We also learned a new movement song that was a HUGE hit. During "Listen and Move" we walked, tip-toed, galloped, ran, skated, and hopped.

Our School Bus Rocks!

Today we completed our school bus! We took turns cutting out the words and gluing them on the bus. We also cut out a fabulous stop sign. Check it out, it's hanging on the bulletin board in the hall! During centers we read books and worked with little people and yellow school buses.

The wheels on the bus go round and round...

Today we talked a lot about circles! I read a book about circle shapes (pizzas, wheels, coins, etc.). We moved our bodies to "Wheels on the Bus" during circle time and then we took turns drawing and cutting circles to make wheels on OUR bus. We glued them on the bus and it looks awesome! Please be sure to keep noticing yellow and circles with your kiddos in your environment. We played a lot today in the Home Center, too.

First Day of School!

We've had a great first day so far! This morning we all worked in the fine motor center or the reading center. We read books about colors and many other things and we also built structures with people and bristle blocks. During circle time we talked about the attributes of our shirts (color, picture on them, etc.) and we learned the "Tooty Ta". During our center activity today we painted a big bus shape yellow. We put on paint shirts, requested paint, and used our hands to cover the WHOLE bus. It looks great! We'll be adding features to this bus as the week goes on. After we worked with the paint, we worked with community helper trucks and street signs. We rolled them around, talked about them, and said if we've seen them in our neighborhood before.
Have fun with your kiddos tonight! We'll see you in the morning!

Welcome to the School Year 2010-2011!!

Welcome to the 2010-2011 School Year Blog!!!

My hope is that you will use this blog to enhance your child's learning by talking with them on a regular basis about what they've been up to at school (you get to cheat...you already know a lot of the answers because of the blog!). I also hope you use the blog as a way to share with your family and friends what your child is doing and learning at school. I always welcome your comments and suggestions.

For the months of August and September we'll be studying the following:
Yellow (please support their learning by talking about yellow when you're around it with your children)

Circle (please support their learning by talking about circles and touching circles when you have them in your environment)

School (this is learning about the school environment, procedures, schedules, etc., and, most of all, learning that learning is FUN!)

Community Helpers (we'll talk a lot about different jobs, particularly those who have jobs at school)

Me (we will introduce the 5 senses and talk about our arms/legs/head/hands/feet)

Let me know during the year if you have any questions/concerns about anything. The best way to communicate with me is by email and my goal is to get back with you within 24 hours (most of the time I'm much quicker than that). kali.parsons@austinisd.org

Here's to a great school year!!!
