Pigs on the Farm

A bunch of pigs showed up at our farm today! Be sure to check out our hallway bulletin board! Today we continued working on our farmer self-portraits. We started adding yarn for hair, selecting the color of our eyes, adding facial features, and putting a big pocket and buttons on our overalls. We'll continue working on the tomorrow. Got to get them finished quickly so the farmers can be looking after those pigs!!!

Paper Plate Pigs

Today we made paper plate pigs to go with our barn. We cut and glued all of the pig parts (including our pipe cleaner squiggly tails!), which helped us with our fine motor development. We had a blast playing on the playground and enjoyed the beautiful weather this afternoon. Be sure to check the barn outside of our room for new animals as we create them each day!

Fun Friday!

We had a fun-filled Friday! We have been learning all about farm animals and what farmers do. The librarian read us two books about farm animals and we told her about our field trip to Crowe's Nest Farm. We traced our bodies to begin making ourselves as farmers. On Monday we'll add overalls, facial features, and hair to our tracings to make our farmers look like us. The most exciting part of the day...we finally got to play in our Zilker barn! We took turns going inside the barn and pretending to be animals and farmers. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Zilker Farm!

We finished our own Zilker Farm Barn today! We cut long rectangles out of white paper, glued them on the big red box to create a door, colored a rooster (just like at Crowe's Nest Farm), glued it at the top of our barn, and wrote "Zilker Farm". Tomorrow we will have so much fun playing in it!

Our Big Red Barn

Hope you all had a wonderful spring break!!!

This morning we began painting a HUGE box red. We used our hands to put paint all over it. The box is going to be our own Big Red Barn, with doors and everything. We'll be able to go in and out of it, pretend that we're animals, and talk all about our farm.

What a fun first day back!

Sunny, Cloudy, and Puzzles

Today we created a big yellow sun and a puffy white cloud to go with our farm scene. We drew lots of points on a big yellow piece of paper and cut on the lines to create a sun. We drew lots of bumps on a big white piece of paper, cut on the lines, and glued cotton balls to the shape to create a puffy white cloud. After lunch we had time to work on puzzles. We can do entire puzzles ALL BY OURSELVES! Have a great spring break, everyone!!!

Spring has Sprung!

Today we observed that outside the trees had small leaves on them and some even had flowers! We decided to make our classroom tree match. We crumpled small pieces of tissue paper to make flowers and we cut small leaves. They are all on our classroom tree now! Please check it out when you drop your child off. They'd love to show it off! We also worked with our four seasons trees kit, placing apples and flowers on them just like in the book "The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree". Also, please notice rectangles in your environment as we continue our work with the rectangle shape.

Barn and Blocks

Today we created towers in the big toys center using blocks. We navigated our emergency vehicles around them. We also cut rectangles out of white paper and created a window for our barn. Every barn needs hay in the loft, so we glued some on there! Our silo is now red and tomorrow we'll cut it out and add more details.

Scooping, Pouring, Cutting

Today we worked in the science center. We scooped and poured sand and talked about how the sand felt. In the art center we cut really long white rectangles. We're going to use the rectangles to add features (door and window) to our big red barn, just like in the books we've been reading.

Mat Man and our Big Red Barn

Even Mat Man is a community helper!

And check out our Big Red Barn! Today we cut it out and glued the roof on top of the big rectangle shape.

We also had a great time planting seeds in the Pre-K garden with Jabo and Julie. They showed us how to rake and hoe, too!

Community Helpers and Twins!

We were community helpers today. We dressed up as many different members of our community and did the helpful things that they do.

And...so much fun when we realize that one of the teachers is dressed like one of the students! Twins!
